The Student Success Center (SSC) provides all tutoring, testing and library functions of the College and offers a comprehensive array of academic support services and resources. Most of the services and resources, with the exception of some testing services, are provided by the SSC at no charge. The SSC is a resource for all customers of the College: students, parents, faculty, staff members and the general public.
The SSC offers individual and group tutoring on a walk-in or appointment basis for general education courses and technical programs. It also provides a tutor training program that has received International Tutor Training Program Certification from the College Reading and Learning Association.
Guidance is available throughout the year on a variety of topics, including:
- Academic Advising
- Accessing resources and databases
- Learning styles
- Taking lecture notes
- Test taking
- Time management
Various information regarding these topics – as well as most SSC documents, aids, databases and schedules – may be found online via Inside Ranken.
The SSC offers print, video/DVD, computer-aided and online materials on a variety of study skills topics, including math, reading and writing, and is equipped with a copy machine/scanner, computers and printers for customer use.
All traditional library assistance and services are part of the Student Success Center. Please visit the SSC for access to Ranken’s physical collection, including books, newspapers and magazines. The catalog for the physical book collection as well as access to thousands of eBooks, several online databases and the Mobius Library Search—used to access the catalogs of other academic and public libraries throughout Missouri—are available online via Inside Ranken, and personalized assistance is available in the Student Success Center. In total, the SSC provides:
- More than 8,500 physical academic and research resources
- Access to more than 100,000 eBooks
- Access to various online databases
- More than 100 daily newspapers, professional journals and periodicals
Infopasses and Interlibrary loan are also available through the Student Success Center at Ranken Technical College. These programs give Ranken students and employees access to the collections of dozens of academic libraries as well as the resources of many local libraries.
The SSC operates a testing room and administers Placement, Course and Industrial testing in addition to Credit-By-Assessment (CBA), Credit-By-Examination (CBE) and College-Level Examination Program (CLEP®) testing services. The SSC also administers the Ranken STEPS (math and reading) programs, which may be identified as prerequisite courses for general studies courses or technical majors, and Information Technology (IT) Certification Testing.

In compliance with the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, Ranken Technical College makes every effort to accommodate individuals with disabilities. A student with a disability is eligible to receive reasonable accommodations if the documented disability is a learning, mental or physical impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities. The Student Success Center (SSC) coordinates support services for students who have properly documented disabilities of a permanent or temporary nature, provided that accommodations do not create an undue hardship on the College. To obtain accommodations, students must identify themselves to the SSC and provide written documentation of their disabilities from qualified professionals or agencies. This documentation includes educational, medical, psychological, and/or other appropriate diagnostic evaluations to define the nature and extent of the disability along with recommendations for appropriate accommodations.
In order to have accommodations in place at the start of the semester, documentation should be provided to the SSC at least 30 days before the start of the semester. However, documentation may be provided at any time, and accommodations will be set up as promptly as possible. Once the documentation has been reviewed and the accommodations agreed upon through a collaborative process between the SSC and the student, the student must then sign and return the Release of Information form, included with the letter and noting the eligible accommodations, to the SSC. Following the return of the Release of Information form which allows the SSC to notify, in writing, each of the student’s instructors of the appropriate accommodations.
The student must then request the accommodations desired from the instructor for each course. The student is also responsible for informing the Vice President for Diversity and Student Success of any changes to his or her schedule to ensure all new instructors may be sent the necessary documentation. Director of Student Success Center
The Student Success Center is located on the second floor of Finney and stretches across the second level of the bridge to the Gray Building. Testers should enter via the F207 door, and all other visitors should enter through the double doors to the main area of the SSC from either the Finney Building or the Gray Building.
The SSC provides pleasant and inviting spaces for student learning and socializing, and in addition to the physical Student Success Center location, tutoring often occurs within individual departments and at Wentzville in designated areas, such as classrooms and shops, as needed by the student requesting assistance.
Student Success Center Hours
Hours of operation are as follows:
- 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays and Tuesdays
- 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays
- 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Fridays
- 8 a.m. to noon Saturdays
The Student Success Center may adjust hours as necessary.
Semester schedules and special schedules (for instance, during Spring Break and Winter Break) are available in the SSC and/or on Inside Ranken.
