Ranken and Wrenching for the Future Partner to Offer High School Seniors a Cool Experience

Ranken Technical College is inviting St. Louis area high school seniors to be part of a “rat rod” building team next spring where they can gain hands-on auto tech experience while having fun and earning tech education scholarships.

Ranken was chosen by Wrenching for the Future to host this week long “build-off” that will take place TBD.  As part of Rat Rod’s “Wrenching for the Future” program, 20-30 students will build a rat rod using parts from vintage vehicles. Rat Rod magazine will cover the expenses of the vehicle parts that will be provided by Jimmy Smooth Rat Rods of Cedar Hill, Mo.

On Friday, April 10, 2020, the team members, Ranken instructors, families, friends and Rat Rod representatives will gather for the “Big Reveal.” The “new” running, driving, safe vehicle will then be auctioned off and its proceeds will go to a fund that will provide scholarships for the team members.

In addition earning scholarships, team members will have an opportunity to socialize with other students, and learn fabrication, engine mechanics, design, problem-solving, and creative thinking skills under the direction of experienced instructors.

A team member must be a high school senior who has a minimum 2.5 GPA and a 90% attendance rate, and must provide a 200-word or more description about why he/she wants to be part of the Rat Rod build-off. He/she must also provide a written recommendations and contact information from a high school teacher and high school principal.

The deadline to apply is February 29, 2020!
