The 16-month program provides hands-on training in a critical, in-demand field.

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (March 2, 2026) — Ranken Technical College is expanding the Diesel Technology program to Edwardsville, Illinois, with enrollment open for Fall 2026. The 16-month program will align to Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Medium-Heavy Duty Truck Standards and operate from the local Schneider facility. The program combines Ranken’s proven hands-on model with real learning in a live shop setting, placing a greater focus on quality, performance, and professionalism to prepare graduates to be career-ready diesel service technicians.

With a projected steady increase in new diesel technician jobs in the next ten years, this expansion addresses the need for more skilled diesel mechanics in the region as more employers seek applicants who have completed post-secondary training programs and labor gaps continue to grow.

Through a focus on hands-on training and modern industry-standard technologies, students will become proficient in a range of skills and equipment such as servicing and maintaining diesel engines, servicing transmission assemblies in heavy-duty trucks, servicing brake systems and performing preventative maintenance inspections and service.

“Our Diesel Technology Program is designed to give students both the technical knowledge and practical experience they need to launch a career in a high-demand field,” said Ranken Vice President for Education, Shannon Brueggemann. “With the industry expecting thousands of technician openings annually and employers increasingly seeking postsecondary training, the program gives students an edge right out of the gate.”

Students can earn either a certificate or associate’s degree in Diesel Technology. Upon completion, students will be equipped to take the Heavy-Duty Truck ASE tests and enter the job market as confident, career-ready diesel service technicians.

Prospective students, parents, and employers are invited to learn more about the program at the Open House event on March 31 from 4-6 p.m. at Schneider’s Edwardsville facility (141 Enterprise Dr., Edwardsville, IL 62025). Attendees can tour the facility, meet instructors and see how the program prepares students for immediate success in the diesel service industry. Closed-toed shoes and full-length pants will be required for attendees. Safety glasses will be required and made available by Ranken.
