Why Give to Ranken?

Contributions to Ranken are very important especially when it comes to maintaining the quality and affordability of a Ranken education. Every program at the College benefits from private philanthropy – from new or remodeled shops, to donated equipment and technology, campus improvements, scholarship funds and grants for student support services. Philanthropic support is critical to all of these areas.

Impact of my Gift – Frequently Asked Questions

Q.Why does Ranken need contributions?
Tuition only covers 65% of the costs of operating the College. The rest comes from the income from our endowment and contributions. Ranken relies on this support for a variety of purposes including scholarships, construction/renovation projects, program support, new equipment and campus improvements.

Q. Who benefits from this support?
Over 2,300 day and evening students directly benefit from your contributions through the improved quality and accessibility of our educational programs.
Hundreds of companies and businesses (locally, regionally and nationally) benefit every time they hire a Ranken graduate. Our graduates are highly sought after thanks to their hands-on training and solid work ethic.

The entire region benefits by having one of the best technical colleges in the country right here in St. Louis graduating well-trained technicians in automotive maintenance, collision repair, carpentry, HVAC, plumbing, electrical automation, control systems, electrical systems design, IT, machining and industrial maintenance.

Q. Where do the contributions come from?
Support for the College comes from four sources:
Individuals (alumni, parents, trustees and friends)
Companies and businesses
Private Foundations
Federal, State and Local Grants

Q. Why are contributions important?
Ranken Technical College is over 100 years old and it has always relied upon the generosity of individuals, companies and foundations to support its educational mission. Our largest benefactor was David Ranken, Jr. In 1907, Mr. Ranken bequeathed his estate to establish an endowment that still benefits our students today. Your contributions will help current and future generations of students by maintaining our quality and keeping tuition affordable.

Q. What about scholarship support?
Scholarship contributions are extremely important since most of our students require some type of assistance to be able to attend the College. Last year alone, over $1.5 million was awarded in scholarship support that was contributed by friends, companies, foundations and grants.

Q. Does Ranken need donations of equipment and supplies?
Absolutely! In-kind contributions are welcomed and greatly appreciated since they save the College a lot of money. A complete list of our equipment needs and home building supplies can be found on this web site or you can contact the Development Office for assistance.

Q. Are contributions tax deductible?
Yes. Ranken is a 501(c) 3 non-profit educational institution. As such, all contributions, in-kind gifts and grants are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law. Gifts of stocks have the added benefit of avoiding capital gains taxes.
