Automotive, 1978
“I wouldn’t be where I am without Ranken. It’s a great school and it gives you a chance to apply yourself.”
Herbert Williams is thankful for his automotive maintenance technology degree from Ranken, which afforded him an opportunity that has led to 25 years working for Plaza Motor Company in Creve Coeur, MO.
“I wouldn’t be where I am without Ranken. It’s a great school and it gives you a chance to apply yourself,” Williams said. “At Plaza, if you are a Ranken grad, they are going to give you a shot. I’ve been here since 1982 and now I’m the service manager for Mercedes-Benz. I couldn’t have done it without my education from Ranken.” In addition to Mercedes-Benz, he’s trained for and worked on Porsche’s, Cadillac’s, Audi’s and BMW’s. He earned the BMW Leadership Award in 2002. He was named a finalist in 2003 and 2004 for national BMW awards.
In 2004, Williams was awarded the GM Mark of Excellence Award for Service Manager, as well as several Plaza Motor Company awards for improving the Cadillac service department. He was named one of the top seven BMW shop foremen in the country in 2005.
“Most people do not have the privilege of doing exactly what they wanted to do when they grow up,” said Roxanne, his wife. “Herb, on the other hand, always wanted to be a tech working on fast cars at one of the best dealerships in St. Louis. Now being a service manager, he continues to learn, teach others and compete.”
In his spare time, the Maryland Heights resident participates in mayor meetings for his city. He also hosts the annual National Night Out party for his neighborhood.
