2008-09 Room Options and Pricing
Room costs are based on a contract covering the fall and spring semesters. Students have the option of purchasing a separate 2009 summer contract.
A) Wheelchair accessible with 1 bathroom, $2,700 per semester per person
B) Single unit with 1 bathroom, $2,700 per semester per person
C) Double unit with 1 bathroom, $2,138 per semester per person
D) 2-bedroom apartment with 1 bathroom, 2 closets in each room , living room, $2,475 per semester per person
E) 4-bedroom apartment with 2 bathrooms, kitchen area, living room, $2,925 per semester per person

The following items are standard in every dorm room, per student:
- Standard twin-size bed,
- Wardrobe
- Desk and desk chair
Additional Room Features
- Internet access
- Basic cable
- Heat, air-conditioning, hot and cold water, electricity
Meal Plan
Meal plans are mandatory for students living in the dorm. Meal plan cost is $1325 per semester for the 2008/2009 school year.

How to Apply for Housing
- Forms are not yet available; email Jeremy Sutton to be placed on the contact mailing list for applications. Please provide student name and mailing address in your email.
- Return completed form to the Director of Residential Life along with a $150 deposit
- Application deadlines for priority placement are:
- May 1, 2008 for the fall semester
- December 1, 2008 for the spring semester
- April 1, 2009 for the summer semester
- Priority placement will be given to students who submit their application and housing form along with their deposit prior to the deadline dates. Applications will be reviewed in the order they are received.
- Students choosing not to accept an offered housing assignment, who then submit a written cancellation request to the Residential Life Office before the corresponding semester application deadline date will be refunded their security deposit.
- Students who have been approved for housing will receive a housing assignment in the mail. The mailing will include move-in information; including what items to bring, what items not to bring and scheduled move-in dates and times.
Roommate Requests
Roommate requests may be made on the housing application and contract form. The College reserves the right to assign roommates. The Residential Life Office will try to match students based on the personality profile section of completed housing applications.
General Dorm Policies and Procedures
- Residents must abide by the rules in the Ranken Student Handbook and the Residential Life Handbook. Residents will receive a Residential Life Handbook when they move in
- No smoking allowed inside the dormitory
- No alcohol consumption or possession allowed
- No illegal drug use or possession allowed
- No firearms or explosives allowed
- No pets allowed except fish in an aquarium no larger than 10 gallons
- Resident students must submit a guest registration form if they plan to have non-resident visitors in their room.
- All students living in the dorm will be provided with a mailbox. Mailboxes will be located on the first floor.
- All Ranken students are required to have a parking hang-tag in their vehicle. Students living in the dormitory will have the opportunity to receive their parking tag on move-in day.
Dorm Security and Staffing
The following security precautions have been put in place at Walker Hall:
- Security guard on duty 24/7 located at the front desk in the lobby.
- Main control area for Ranken’s department of public safety located inside the dormitory.
- St. Louis Police Department substation located inside the dormitory.
- Video cameras installed inside the dorm in common areas and corridors and along the outside perimeter of the dorm to keep an eye on student vehicles.
- Resident Advisors will live on both floors of the dormitory
- A Graduate Advisor will live in the dormitory and will be “on call” as required.
- Professional staff offices will be located on the first floor of the dormitory including the chief of public safety.
- Dormitory will have controlled access.
- Resident students must submit a guest registration form if they plan to have non-resident visitors in their room.
Campus-wide Student Services
- Career Services – Assists students and alumni with finding full-time and part-time job placement.
- Counseling Office – Licensed counselor provides a confidential environment where students can discuss personal issues.
- Department of Public Safety – 24 hour security professionals are dedicated to keeping the campus safe and secure.
- Library – Provides access to a comprehensive collection of multimedia educational resources; including more than 20,000 books, audiovisuals, and a collection of daily newspapers, journals and periodicals.
- Student Achievement Center – Provides an assortment of academic support services for students including tutoring, study skills guidance, testing, and accommodations for students with diagnosed learning disabilities.
- Student Activities – Provides opportunities through various clubs and organizations for students to get involved outside of the classroom. Organizations include Student Government, Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, SkillsUSA, Women in Technology, Ranken Outdoors Club, and the Ranken Automotive Club.
- Student Support Services (TRiO) – Program designed to help improve retention rates of at-risk students and their rates of transfer to four-year degree granting institutions.
- Student Ambassadors - Student Ambassadors assist in a variety of activities, including giving campus tours, assisting in campus-wide events and helping the admissions and other campus offices in a general capacity.
