100 Years... 100 Outstanding Ranken Graduates

» precision machining technology

On a tour of the facility, I saw how much is actually encompassed in manufacturing, and that I would be designing and building parts from start to finish. Now, I’m learning the computer systems that are the new backbone of this industry, so when I graduate I know my skills will be in high demand.”

Precision Machining Technology (PMT) students combine creativity, design and mathematical skills to construct parts for all types of machinery. Throughout the two-year associate degree program, students receive an average of 15 hours per week of hands-on instruction and training on the most up-to-date equipment. Ranken’s PMT program is also home to the largest Haas Automation advanced manufacturing training facility in the bi-state area—boasting more than $600,000 in computerized numerical control (CNC) equipment.

Students also study total process analysis, basic hand tool use, blueprint reading, computer design programs, fundamental tool making, inspection, maintenance machining, mechanical drafting, moldwork and tool and die.

The simulated shop environment gives graduates the foundation for a choice of careers, including machining, CNC programming, mold/die making, inspector, quality control technician, or machine tool building — just to name a few. And, the earning potential is equally attractive with salaries running between $40,000 and $45,000 per year with as little as three years of industry experience.
